Re: Automatic Windows Updates initialize, then nothing...
Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance
one idea is to turn off windows updates, stop the service, delete everything
in
softwaredistribution folder, restart the service, then turn on windows
update
and wait a couple minutes for it to refesh itself. also the log can be
renamed
or even deleted if you prefer, while the service is off. WindowsUpdate.log
now you know wu is all working right, u should get the ones again and try it
from there.

Hello,
I'm experiencing a problem with Windows Updates on a freshly reinstalled
Windows XP (with SP2 slipstreamed).
All post SP2 automatic updates went fine (90+ were installed, including
IE7), plus a couple I downloaded from WU web site, until yesterday where
the yellow shield informed me that 2 new updates were pending : KB933579
and KB931906.
Few minutes after launching these updates, I noted that I had not received
the usual message informing that the updates were completed.
Double clicking on the yellow shield showed that the update process was
still "initializing". I cancelled the installation and rebooted - the
same happened when the yellow shield showed up.
I also tried to install the updates one at a time (I tried both) at no
avail.
Any idea ?
Thanks.
