Yes,
The file is there and it is two gigs like my memory. I have gigs of space
left as well. The funny thing is I was able to do this fine but just a
couple of days ago I notice that closing my lid no longer sent the notebook
into hibernate mode.
The only thing I have added is a USB Microsoft Digital Media 1.0 keyboard to
use instead of the one on the notebook. But I seem to recall still being
able to hibernate, but maybe I just had not noticed. Removing the keyboard
did not help anyway.

Just a thought, but do you have a hiberfil.sys file in the root of "C"?
(It will be a hidden system file so you will have needed to set "Tools,
Folder Options, View) If no file, do you have enough drive space to create
one, as it writes the entire contents of RAM to the file.

This notebook has always been able to hibernate and sleep, but for some
reason I can no longer do either. When I go to the Power Options the
Enable Hibernation box is missing, but it still appears as a choice in
"When I shut my lid".
I figured that maybe the Lenovo Thinkpad Power Management program might
have gotten messed up so I reinstalled that and even in its advanced
options the "Enable Hibernation" check box will deselect right after I
apply the settings.
I have gone to the command prompt and ran "powercfg /a" and got the
following. Notice that it says these are NOT available:
The following sleep states are not available on this system
Standby (S1)
Standby (S2)
Standby (S3)
Hibernate
