I have a user that is using Outlook and connecting to an Exchange
server. Every once in a while, the user gets an error when trying to
REPLY to a message regarding using Word as their email editor. It
states that Word is not installed or is an incorrect version.

Then I recheck the Use Word as Editor checkbox in Tools->Options->Mail
Format. This then works with new messages, but again the error pops
up and Word is turned off as the mail editor again on REPLIES ONLY.
And on any reply (not a specific message). Closing Outlook and any
related Office program does not solve the issue. After a reboot, it
is fixed - for a while.

Any thoughts on what could be going on and how to correct it? This
happens once or twice a week now for three weeks.

Thanks.

Kevin

I'd probably try a repair install of the whole Office suite on this PC.

If that doesn't work, try posting this (and future questions such as this)
in microsoft.public.outlook, including your exact versions & SP levels of
everything. You could also crosspost to microsoft.public.exchange.clients,
although this specific issue is all Outlook/client....but it isn't a WinXP
issue.

I'd *also* suggest that you *not* enable Word as email editor as it's
slow/bloated and has caused problems everywhere I've seen people try to use
it.

Thanks. Yeah, Word is a real pain but when people are used to
something, breaking them of it is difficult.

I'll try the repair install.

Thanks.
