Windows explorer stops responding

Every time I try to access any of the My... folders (My Pictures, My
Music,...etc) inside of My Documents the explorer gives me an error message
and stops responding. The error points at shdocvw.dll as the problem.
I have tried a fix I found on Google where a new shdocvw.dll was downloaded
and installed - no luck.
I also saw where a corrupt file could cause this so I did as they suggested
- moved all files out of the My Pictures folder and moved them back one by
one - no luck.
I noticed when I copy the My Pictures folder to an external drive that I do
not have the problem. Only seems to be a problem when trying to acces from
the C drive.

Just so happens that I downloaded and installed several windows updates
right before this problem started. I saw that microsoft had a few similiar
issues listed in their knowledge base, but nothing that matched exactly. Most
of the issues occurred when accessing folders across a network.
