To access documents from a previos installation, as long as they were not encrypted, you need to take ownership of those files.

My laptop died and I tried to recover "hidden" documents with the hdd
on a external enclosure.they are of course not showing.If i was to
install the hdd in another laptop using the "repair" feature in xp
setup/install to adapt the drive to the second laptop will I be able
to access the "hidden"/private documents?
