Thank you again for the fast reply. First, I know all about restore to
factory state. No way am I ready to do that. Tech help is always quick to
jump to that as a resolution rather then spend time to resolve problems.

Initially, my problems began with the video driver. Believe that is settled
now. During one of those sessions I had the tech uninstall the Business
portion of my Outlook program. I believe now he did it improperly as he
subsequently had to uninstall all the SQL stuff on my computer so I would
boot without errors. I then had a problem with streaming video wherein my
media player would replace the player on a particular web-page and not play
the stream. Ultimately, if I clicked on a page such as wvec.com and went to
interactive eagle cam the browser would blow out and close completely. Seems
to be fixed now.

Ever since I have had this computer I receive this error and have yet to
resolve what it is and it may simply be I shut down the computer with a disk
in the cd or dvd drive for all I know.

I have run chkdsk and the tech has run diagnostics and finds nothing wrong.

That is why I finally ran sfc on my own and discovered the ehome stuff.
Now, I have found the following article

I show the following via Add/Remove Programs:

Media Edition 2005; Update Rollup 2 for Media Edition 2005; along with
KB908246 & KB925766. None are listed as needing to be removed in this white
paper however there was a KB referred to that needed to be removed prior to
upgrade to Media Player 11 that I discovered after I had done the update. I
received that update via MS-updates by clicking on update on my Media Player
10 and presumed it to be correct. I only note this as it could be an issue
regarding the above.

I am not quite sure what the download listed in the white paper as 912024
dated Jan 24, 2006 actually is because it shows you get the update rollup2
via automatic MS-updates screen and generally these files are not available
any other way. If it is the entire roll-up can I simply install it over the
old one or do I need to uninstall rollup2 and then what?

I will be taking your advice on the paging file and will try it. I have one
question on your comments. What do you mean 2? You gave me 1152 and I asked
you what the maximum would be since it appears I have to complete that area.

"recovery", perhaps by

well, tweaking the virtual
memory wont cause damage
to your system and can be
resized at any time, including
via safemode.

the formula for the size of
the pagefile on the disk is
1.5 times the size of physical
ram.

the formula simply provides a
standard for sizing the high end/
maximum of the pagefile
required for your virtual mem.

however, something to keep
in mind is that the formula
was ingeniously designed for
"low ram" systems.

so the formula is helpful to
a certain point and for certain
systems/configurations.

my suggestion because of your
modern system/configuration
is to skip the standard formula
and get the real (actual) number of
the amount of vm used for your
system.

unless you are running high
end graphics or animation software
or have special software designed
for calculating the ratio of gravity
to the celestial planets during
certain galactic phases, i wouldn't
be surprised if you only using
a meager 50 megs of v.m. since
you have lots of physical ram
that is working for you.

if my estimate is true or pretty
close, then having a pagefile
starting at 2046 gigs is way
out in space.

however if your programs are not
sluggish then leave your vm as is
because systems and configurations
vary so my suggestions may
not help for yours.

but in my experience an oversized
or undersized pagefile has inverse
affect on performance.

it has also been my experience
that regular folks may see their
computer functioning in an acceptable
manner, computer geeks would
otherwise scoff at the poor
performance.

because yours is set between 2046 and
4092 your system is stating by default
that total allocated is 2046.

the number is pretty high and
likely not a true one. further some
software that has been hard coded
to demand for a certain amount
of pagefile may not be performing
well.

so if you are in the mood and have
the time to bring your vm back down
to earth, then try resizing your
pagefile to a low end of 2, windows
will then give you a real number
of the vm you are actually using.

in regards to ehome,
i am not sure what to
say about that.

it seems that error messages
were stating that sfc cannot
move the system dlls from
the ehome folder, thus the
errors.

i would double check to
see that the folder and
files sfc is having issues
with are actually in the
disk where sfc is looking
for them.

again, if by chance the cause
of the errors you received are
a result of loosing that ehome
folder, "do not" do a factory
restore to reinstall that special
folder - unless you are ready
to revert the system back to
its original state.

it is not clear why you chose
to do an sfc, but obviously you
are encountering some issues -
maybe that ehome folder is vital to your
system. maybe you can elaborate
further as to why you needed to
do an sfc.

incidentally, if you have not done
so, it would not be a bad idea to
ensure your personal files are
copied onto a cd or uploaded to
microsoft live.

also, if the folder was accidentally
deleted or moved, then maybe
it can be moved back or undeleted
with a third party program.

I believe Dell does have something hidden in a portion of it but I am not
sure. Under the Advanced tab I have:

No paging file

The total paging file size for all drives states
Minimum allowed 2MB
Recommended 4603
Current allocated 2046

Also, I run Diskeeper a program that in realtime defrags my HD. What if any
effect will this program have on such a change. Do you know? If I set the
initial size at 1152 what would be the maximum size. Also, I read somewhere
that your paging file should be 1-1/1 times your RAM. I have 4GB Ram.
Without getting really detailed can you give me some general info on what
performance loss I might be experiencing?

Regarding ehome. In the link I provided to you MS states that the
manufacturer may have put the files in another location for performance. If
that is the case will Dell and install ehome I may get more than I am asking
for. The link I provided to you clearly states those files are not needed to
run Media. I must say it is rather confusing to provide a work-around to
eliminate the files and yet have them error stating they are needed when you
run a sfc scan.
