Again, thank you for your response. I only have the C drive unpartitioned.
I believe Dell does have something hidden in a portion of it but I am not
sure. Under the Advanced tab I have:
Processor schedule: By default, computer set to use greater share of
processor time to run program witht he following choices:
Program and Background services (Program is checked)
Memory Use: By default, computer set to use greater share of memory time to
run program with the following choices:
Program and System Cache (Program is checked)
Virtual Memory: Total paging file size for all drives is 2046MB
Virtual Memory Tab shows:
Drive [Volume Lable] and Paging file size (MB)
My Volume is C and paging is set at 2046 -- 4092
Drive Space Available is 248155MB
Custon size is checked showing the following:
Initial size (MB) 2046
Maximim size (MB) 4092
Additional Options include:
System managed size
No paging file
The total paging file size for all drives states
Minimum allowed 2MB
Recommended 4603
Current allocated 2046
Also, I run Diskeeper a program that in realtime defrags my HD. What if any
effect will this program have on such a change. Do you know? If I set the
initial size at 1152 what would be the maximum size. Also, I read somewhere
that your paging file should be 1-1/1 times your RAM. I have 4GB Ram.
Without getting really detailed can you give me some general info on what
performance loss I might be experiencing?
Regarding ehome. In the link I provided to you MS states that the
manufacturer may have put the files in another location for performance. If
that is the case will Dell and install ehome I may get more than I am asking
for. The link I provided to you clearly states those files are not needed to
run Media. I must say it is rather confusing to provide a work-around to
eliminate the files and yet have them error stating they are needed when you
run a sfc scan.

in regards to the pagefile,.
it is used for virtual memory
which supports the system
when memory runs low.
if you are using regular software
that has been designed for
512 megs of ram, it is unlikely you
will use more than 2 gigs of memory
and then need additional pagefile
for any overflow.
to view the probability above,
the stats you provided are as
follows:
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Avail Virtual Memory 1.94 GB
therefore the calculation is:
TVM-AVM = Virtual Memory Used
the reason the VMU is low is because
there is a lot of room inside your ram
for the processes' and there is little
demand for much virtual memory.
however, software especially designed
for high memory will let windows
know (and you) that more v.m. is needed
if the v.m. runs low.
so in the interim you can try to
tweak/custom size your virtual mem
and see if you can gain some
performance:
firstly, make a system
restore point at this time.
secondly, here is the info
on customizing the pagefile:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307886/en-us
for item 6 set it at: 2
for item 7 set it at: 1152
for item 8 set it to: C
"however"
if you are fortunate to have
a non system partition or disk
like a "D", then i would move
the pagefile to it.
then reboot and see if
the above seems helpful.
------------
in regards to ehome,
here is a link i found:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888795
it should provide some
additional information and
i think there is tech support
avail as well.
i don't know much about
ehome. however, it seems
that it is an integral part of
your o.s. and should not be
providing any errors.
so even if you don't use
the device or service provided
by ehome, it seems that it should
still be installed and configured
correctly.
so the premise of resolving
ehome errors is to get it
functional as it was when
you first got your computer.

I cannot reinstall ehome that I now of. I did however find the following,
which is no fix but sheds some light. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909059
It looks to me that the work-around is only that as it does not install the
missing files.
I did not set the pagefile size. How do I do that and what is appropriate?
I have no clue what it even does.
Thanks for your response.

for one thing i
think that having
a 4 gigabyte pagefile
is not helpful to
your system as it
is way too big.
next, it seems the brunt
of the errors relate to
something called
ehome - perhaps a
microsoft specialty
device.
framework is also noted
but this is likely included
or linked to the ehome
software.
you might try reinstalling
ehome and maybe look
up any updates or patches
for it afterwards.
