Hi,

I have a pool of usb hard drives that are used for backup. I also
have a backup script that will copy files to these drives in a daily
basis.

It appears that I can't assign a specific drive letter for these
drives permanently. I tried manually changing the drive letter (the
one that I used before) for all of them, but when they are
reconnected, it will use d: again, but not the one that I specified.

Does anyone know a solution for this?

Thanks

It is a known @#%$ design in XP
Plug the USB
Go to the disk manager
Set the drive letter you want
Clik Add button, and select
Mount to empty NTFS folder. Browse to the
directory to which you want to mount the drive. Create a directory you want to mount to
Remove the drive letter and click
OK. The USB drive has a permanent home inside your hard drive.

But why is op having a problem, I am able to assign unique letters to both usb flash drive and external hd.

Thanks for all the input. As I mentioned, I need the specific drive letter assigned for the usb drive. Mounting it as a folder doesn't work for me.
