Yes, I did all that, but it won't retain the drive letter if I
disconnect and reconnect it sometime later.

Hi,
I have a pool of usb hard drives that are used for backup. I also have
a backup script that will copy files to these drives in a daily basis.
It appears that I can't assign a specific drive letter for these
drives permanently. I tried manually changing the drive letter (the
one that I used before) for all of them, but when they are
reconnected, it will use d: again, but not the one that I specified.
Does anyone know a solution for this?
Thanks
In Win XP Pro (and your drive plugged in), go to
Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management
You should see the USB drive listed in the right hand pane, right click
on this drive and select 'Change Drive Letter and Paths'.
This assigns a fixed drive letter to the USB drive.- Hide quoted text -

The author has made a system service which will help you to assign a
drive letter that would always be the same.
