The cd has to be the best choice for dialup folks, especially
the ones in regions where they pay for download time, etc.
A CD is best for everyone, Colin. I've heard numbers from 67MB to
300MB, but no matter what it is, that's iffy even for a cable
modem user. I ordered the CD for SP2 back when. But, for this and
many other threads, I have yet to see even the remotest
compelling reason to even bother if my system is as up-to-date as
I want it and it runs fine. Beyond that, why risk a visit from
Murphy?

The upgrade should only be about 65MB on an up to date SP2
system.
WinXP SP3 has not been released.
When it is released, it will be offered to your machine
via Automatic Updates.
Thanks for the warning, you can be damn sure I will NEVER
take advantage of something this huge with the potential
for so much grief via automatic updates!
It isn't the size, even though that large a file is a LONG
download so I would order a CD, it is that I would never
allow autoupdate to attempt such as thing. Call me paranoid
but I have very little confidence in MS's ability to "do it
right the first time". e.g., I NEVER install critical updates
right away, and never all of them at once. I lurk here and
other places to see what early updaters experience. I've
already stated why I wouldn't do an SP3 for any reason, so I
don't need to repeat it.
