Re: Sharing a USB printer

Anybody know of any issues sharing a USB printer on a peer-to-peer LAN in a mostly XP environment (with one Vista computer.)

Only the obvious. The printer doesn't work when the workstation it's attached to is off. ;-)

I'm working on a network for a client that has a Xerox Phaser and Samsung ML-1740 laser printer both USB connected; they can be shared but cannot be connected to. However another computer on the LAN has a Cannon printer on a LPT port that all computers on the network can print to. These 2 printers show as on line but when I try to print a test page from properties, I get an error the test page could not be sent. I can check the print queue but nothing gets that far.

I've done all the usual troubleshooting and cleaned up the temp files. I was hoping the problem would be a bi-directional setting in the driver like on the old desk jet printers (but no luck there.) I can't find any useful article in the MS KB and even less on the Samsung and Xerox support sites.

To start with there was a rights issue which I have resolved but this connectivity problem has me stumped.
