slipstream a later driver version

If one slipstreams a later driver after an installation CD
that contains an earlier (possibly generic) version of the
driver for a particular device, will the installer
1) automatically select the slipstreamed later version for
installation, or will it
2) install the earlier version and then back it out and
replace it with the later slipstreamed version, or will it
3) install the earlier version and ignore the later
slipstreamed version?
