My wife has a 3 year old Toshiba Laptop that has XP on it. It's way past due for a reinstall. The problem is that I lost the reinstall disk and can not get one from Toshiba. I have a Windows XP Home Edition disk that I bought for my desktop computer. I do not use this computer anymore because the motherboard had a problem. What procedure do I need to follow with Microsoft in order to get them to let me use my paid for XP disk on her laptop since the desktop it was on is now gone, long gone? I would appreciate any help. Thanks so much.
If you aren't running XP Home on the old desktop and it was a retail version, there's nothing you need to do. Install it on the Toshiba and use the Product Key that came with the retail XP Home disk. You may even be able to activate Windows over the Internet; if not, it's an easy phone call. Make sure you get all the drivers for the Toshiba and any specialized laptop software from their site and have them on hand ahead of time.
