Re: Mouse freezes for several seconds many times a day; dual core issue?

Yes I've switched the mouse, and the mouse driver, and video driver.

One 'core' seems to get close to maxing out on these occassions, the
other is not even close. The entire mouse 'idea' does not freeze either,
as I mentioned, any rollover effect on an app or desktop or browser
still response to the momentarily invisible mouse. It's just the mouse
pointer that goes away.

I've had this issue for as long as I've had this dual core machine,
which is why I suspect it's a result of cr*p programming by Microsoft re
dual core cpus. As I mentioned, I had an idential issue years ago when I
had a dual cpu P4, and was told at the time (by someone, not sure they
were right) is was due to dual cpu.

Have you tried another mouse.

Are you getting any messages in event viewer.

You say the CPU is maxed out - maybe you have some other problem that is
only coming to your attention because of the pointer issue.

After all, if the CPU is at 100%, and you ask it to do more work, what would
happen?

Can you remember when it didn't show this behaviour.

Can someone help with this?

Does Microsoft support ever show up here?

I have a workstation with a dual core intel 6600 chip which freezes the
mouse cursor many times a day. The freeze ususally lasts 3-5 seconds.
During the 'freeze', if I move the mouse, the cursor itself does not
move, but I can see effects that indicate that the pointer is in fact
moving...for instance, rollover effects (backcolor changes that usually
occur on a control when the mouse passes over) still take place.

I had some issue like this years ago when I had a dual cpu pc. I was
told that drivers weren't sophisticated enough to handle the dual cpus.
I am wondering if it's the same issue now, with dual core technology.

I am not sure but with the current pc I may have had the task manager
open once and saw the #1 cpu maxed out during a freeze.

The freeze often takes place during intense cpu or disk activity; it's
exactly like the cpu that was handling the mouse cursor has starved it
in favor of some other process.

I've already installed the lastest nvidia video card drivers and they
didn't help at all. I tried the latest logitech mouse drivers and they
had no effect.

I found a microsoft patch that was supposed to

meant to say, applied the xp hotfix for dual core processor performance
issues, didn't help.
