Thanks for the input. I'm afraid my problem looks more serious than that. The shortcut address appears okay - ...%SystemRoot%/system32/calc.exe - but it cannot be found. I have tried "Search" for calc.exe and nothing comes up. It looks very much like it has somehow become uninstalled or so badly corrupted as to be unrecognisable by Windows.

Create a new shortcut and type "calc.exe" in the Target field.
