Wireless connection

Ok...I have both a desktop running XP, and a laptop running Vista. They are
both on the Magic Network which I have installed. The desktop connects using
a wireless USB adapter...the laptop an internal wireless card. The laptop
always finds the wireless signal with no problem. The desktop...well it's
hit or miss. When it's a miss, and it doesn't find it, I have to unplug the
USB wireless adapter, plus it right back in, and voila...it connects. My
question is why? I saw where someone else was having a problem *keeping* a
connection, and was told to change the settings in power management in
device settings. So I did that too, but my problem still exists. The
wireless connection icon says I have a *very good* connection...I just can't
figure out what the problem is. Any ideas? Thanks.
