Hi,
Download TweakUI from here:
TweakUI v2.10 for Windows XP SP1/XP MCE/2003 [147 KB].
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe
Install TweakUI and run it. In TweakUI, expand "My Computer" section and click "Drives". Place a checkmark near the C: drive, and click OK to close TweakUI.

When I type C:\ in the Run box I get the Search Results window with C:\
highlighted.
I have Computer Management on my desktop screen and I can access the C;
drive , it is listed under the Storage>Removable Storage>Disk Management
branch.
And yes, I can see now how to get the Registry Editor to open for me.
hope this helps.
Do you think there is a BIOS setting amiss?

Hi wolfrunner,.
The "NoDrives" value (contains bit mask value) is not supposed to be there. Are you able to access the drive by typing C:\ in Start, Run dialog, or by accessing the Disk Management MMC?
can you recommend a trusted Regristry Ed. for me to use?
How about the built-in Regedit.exe? It does not have an undo feature though. If you're looking for a third-party tool, then check out Registrar Registry Manager (http://www.resplendence.com/registrar)
Computer Hope's forum and they recommended your Tweak web page, nice!
Thank you :-)

Ramesh, I did a Control/F key search or find for the
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer, and nothing
came up.
To clarify: Are you wanting me to write the key in if it turns up missing?
I do not have a Reg. Editor software pkg. right now (but use Win.
LiveOneCare,so I have a good back-up plan), can you recommend a trusted
Regristry Ed. for me to use?
Incedentally, I had someone respond to my asking for help on Computer Hope's
forum and they recommended your Tweak web page, nice!

Hi,
See if the value exists under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive instead.
Type in:
reg query "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer" /v NoDrives

My DELL 4100 is working fine. I have XP Pro. C: drive does not show in my
file for My Computer. On a second comp. with same software still shows the C:
drive in My Comp.. Have Win. Live OneCare and WebRoot's SpySWeeper AV. This
disappearence seems to have happened after a LiveOneCare "tune-up". Could the
LOC have taken a Reg. Key? I just want to do a Scan for disk abnomalities.
