JavaScript questions

Thank you for ALL the help guys and if you don't mind, I would appreciate a
little more help. First, to insure MAXIMUM Security, I disbaled JavaScript
but discovered that several of the (vital) applications that I use REQUIRE
JavaScript so I had to enable it.
My first question is, are there any other options (anything else that might
resemble JavaScript) or am I "stuck" with JavaScript?
Next and this an JavaScript question, I (re)enabled JavaScript but some of
the Websites do not display properly. Is there any other place besides
Tools--> Options-->Content, that I should change/modify to enable JavaScript?
On an unrelated matter, after I re-start WindowsXp Pro, the screen displays
a Found New Hardware Wizard box. I have not installed (or removed) any HW
so my next question is, how do I STOP this Found New HW message Box from
appearing?
And last, one of the Free Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites that were
listed or it could be the Website that I went to download the Anti-Spyware
software, directed me to a program called (Axesoft) IE Doctor version3.6 that
was free to find / locate problems but would not delete it without buying the
program. I was able to navigate my way through RegEdit to find and delete
the "infected" file and would like to know if there is a Free program that is
similar to IE Doctor?
Thank you again for your help,
Bob

I would like to Repair or if needed reinstall WindowsXp Pro
with SP2 but when I place the windowsXP CD in the CD-ROM Drive I am
advised that the Windows version on my system is later than the
Windows version on the CD. How do I repair my WindowsXp with SP2 or
if the only option is reintsll it, how is this done?

Difficult? That's what you are doing if you are running Windows XP
and while *in* Windows XP - telling it to install Windows XP. ;-)

First - why is it you believe you need to do something this
drastic? A fresh install or even a repair installation is not
something you should do just because some little thing isn't
working quite right - nor will it remedy some problems that you may
be experieincing (or they will just come back if you do not change
the habits that allowed the problem to form in the first place.)

To address the message you get about the Windows version on the
system being newer than what you have - obviously the CD you have
for Windows XP is an actual installation medium (good) - but does
not have SP2 integrated into the install. Thus - as you have SP2
installed onto your computer by now (one would hope) - the CD
itself is not Windows XP SP2 (or later) and it gives you the
message that the CD you have inserted contains a version of Windows
XP that is older than what you currently have installed.

If you wish to not share why you are wanting to perform a fresh
install OR a repair install - I will gladly give you the 'how to'
(and links/etc) on how to do this below here. I will also give you
the options you might need to repair the system instead... Clean it
up, secure it and keep it running at its best. The latter options
should be followed whether you perform a repair installation (first
bit of advice I will give you) or a clean install (second bit of
advice I will give you) or better yet - none of the prior and you
just clean it up.

My suggestion - clean it up. Scroll down to (or if you print this,
look for) the section of this post called entitled:
"** The cleanup/protection/maintenance tips..."

In any case - good luck!

Thank you for your help Shenan, most replies probably would be to
please send the unabridged version but I believe that the more
information that I have the better off I am so thank you for ALL
the information that you have provided.

Anyway, I am still digesting what you sent me and to answer you
question of WHY AM I DOING THIS, the simple answer is that my Dell
system with WindowsXp Pro and Mozilla Firefox, is VERY erratic.

I'll give you soem examples:
- it takes 90 seconds or so to load Excel eventhough my system has
1Gig if RAM and a 200G Hard Drive (it took <10 seconds to do the
same thing a few months ago
- When I have more than one session opened and click on the icons
(at the bottom of the screen between the Start button and System
Tray, the page does not "pop-up". In need to click 3 times for
page to appear. Again, when I did this last week, I would click
once and the other session would appear. - Every week or so my
Keyboard would freeze and the only way to continue would be to
restart the system by holding down the On/Off switch. ALT-CNTR-DLT
does nothing.

There are many MANY more of these little nuisances that use to work
fine but all of a sudden, stopped working like they use to.
FYI, I run Windows OneCare, Ad-Aware and A-Squared everyday and
have an External Hard Drive that I backup my data files to weekly.
I would rather not do anything drastic but my system is just not
operating anywhere close to what it use to and I can't think of
anything else to do except "blow it up and start over" so any
advice / recommendations / suggestions / ..... would be greatly
appreciated.
