My pc seems to have deleted the volume icon. Firstly I had lost my sound
then
did a system restore and got the sound back but the volume icon is
missing.
I've gone to add/remove programs but requires me to insert my Disk and I
seem
to have misplaced it. I need help on how to get my volume back if I dont
have
my disk PLEASE! and how do i prevent this from happening in future.
Prreviously my accessories also went missing and i re installed them with
the disk.
Can anyone tell me why do i keep loosing these things am i deleting them
without knowing?
Re: restore ... I tried to use system restore several times over the last few days, ... There is something missing.... you can reinstall with no problem.. ... suppose I could jot down the names and retrieve them from the other disk... (microsoft.public.windowsxp.general)

Data Recovery Help ... To cut a long story short, I tried to fix the problem by booting up from the Windows XP CD & then using the Recovery Console. ... I then removed the hard drive & installed it as a slave drive in another computer, to see if the second computer could read any of the data on the currupt disk.... By the way, I replaced the (missing) "hal.dll" file after CHKDSK had performed its running repairs, returned the hard drive to its own computer & tried booting again. ...
