Repair WindowsXp with SP2

Thank you for your help Shenan, most replies probably would be to please send
the unabridged version but I believe that the more information that I have
the better off I am so thank you for ALL the information that you have
provided.
Anyway, I am still digesting what you sent me and to answer you question of
WHY AM I DOING THIS, the simple answer is that my Dell system with WindowsXp
Pro and Mozilla Firefox, is VERY erratic.
I'll give you soem examples:
- it takes 90 seconds or so to load Excel eventhough my system has 1Gig if
RAM and a 200G Hard Drive (it took <10 seconds to do the same thing a few
months ago
- When I have more than one session opened and click on the icons (at the
bottom of the screen between the Start button and System Tray, the page does
not "pop-up". In need to click 3 times for page to appear. Again, when I did
this last week, I would click once and the other session would appear.
- Every week or so my Keyboard would freeze and the only way to continue
would be to restart the system by holding down the On/Off switch.
ALT-CNTR-DLT does nothing.
There are many MANY more of these little nuisances that use to work fine but
all of a sudden, stopped working like they use to.
FYI, I run Windows OneCare, Ad-Aware and A-Squared everyday and have an
External Hard Drive that I backup my data files to weekly.
I would rather not do anything drastic but my system is just not operating
anywhere close to what it use to and I can't think of anything else to do
except "blow it up and start over" so any advice / recommendations /
suggestions / ..... would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for your help Shenan,
Bob
