The problem was Adobe flash wasn't loading. It just wasn't there and every
time we tried to download from Adobe it froze. Transferring the saved file
from another computer didn't seem to load it, even though it said "completed".
I downloaded autoruns (boy is that detailed and difficult for non experts to
find where any particular item is), but I couldnt find adobe flash listed,
and I couldnt see any browser tab.
What are bhos and what is "eusing"?
Finally another web site that used flash offered the download (without going
to the Adobe site) and that worked. No idea why, or why the Adobe download
always caused the lockup.
Anyhow we are now in business so thanks for the hints.

it was a good idea.
that you did a registry
clean, but not all are
cleaners are equal.
firstly, my suggestion is to
download a freeware
from microsoft.com
called "autoruns"
with it you will find
numerous entries for
adobe, which i would
simply disable them all.
also, pay particular attention
to the tab for the browser.
under it you will likely find
browser helper objects
and i am sure a couple
will be for the flash player.
however, in this instance
i would disable all the bho's
that are non microsoft.
when you need any of
them again, they will be
easily downloaded when
the times comes. but until
then, you likely won't need
the additional bho's.
then reboot.
secondly, i would run
a registry cleaner again.
you can run your favorite but
i think that running "eusing" as
well, will catch the failed adobe
attempts.
then reboot again.
thirdly, now you should be able
to install the flash player
directly from adobe.
fourthly, in regards to the readers from
adobe avoid them. instead
use a suitable replacement
called "foxit reader".

I am trying to help my daughter reload flash player.
Dell Inspiron (about 5 years old) running XP.
Her laptop was very slow. The hard disc is 89% full. So I did a Dell tune
up and a registry clean up and removed unneeded programs, and did a disc
defrag.
I checked and found many Adobe folders, most for outdated versions, so I
deleted all with the idea of reloading, but attempting download from the
Adobe site always causes the computer to freeze.
So I downloaded Adobe reader on my own computer and did an install on hers -
that worked fine.
However when I did this for flash player, programs calling for flash player
dont run and ask me to download flash player, which if I attempt to do so
causes a freeze again.
How can I get flask player onto this computer?
