I opened WMP, and it said an up date was available, so I up dated it.
WMP 11 is what I think it was.
It installed and told me to re boot, so I did, then when I tried to open
WMP, it tells me
"To finish installing WMP,restart your computer, and then log on as an
administrator, or a member of the administrator's group."
Doing a little searching, I saw where I was to shut down and go to safe
mode, and log on as administrator, and I did.
But in safe mode, I could not open WMP, so thinking maybe I was done, I
restarted, but still get the message
"To finish installing WMP,restart your computer, and then log on as an
administrator, or a member of the administrator's group."
when I try to open WMP.
What do I do now?
By the way, I am new to XP, but really like it, it's just learning things
like this that I need to do now.

This is probably happening because your user account is not an administrator
level account, or for some reason is not a member of the Administrators
group.
Go back to Safe Mode, log in as Administrator, go to Contol Panel, User
Accounts. Choose Change an Account, select yours, and then choose "Change
the account type" and finally set it as Computer Administrator. Choose OK
and close windows back to the desktop.
Now, right-click on My Computer and choose Manage. This opens the
Management Console.
In the lefhand pane, under System Tools, choose Local Users and Groups.
Then choose Users, then your account name. Now, click on the Member Of
tab. If you don't see Administrators listed, click on Add, and then where
it says "enter the object name" type in "Administrators" (without the
quotes). Click on Check Names to verify you typed it correctly, then click
on Apply and OK back to the Management console, then close that out back to
the desktop.
Restart the system in regular mode and log into your account. You should
have full rights to the system now.
