Hello to all the kind subscribers who tried so hard to help me with such a
weird problem as I have. I kept trying EVERY ONE of your good
suggestions...without success. Just wanted to report that I wrote about my
problem to the Microsoft Headquarters. I did in the past about some matter
and they helped. I just snail-mailed them and it may take sometime - don't
expect to hear from them until January or February. I'll report to you the
end result - if any - for those who may be interested to know.
Again, thanks so very much to you all for your most valuable help as I've
learned, thanks to you all, how to get aorund the problems in case of a
computer mess! LOL! (I managed to retrieve a few important pages from Word
and put them in my OE for now. Just bought an inexpensive Kingston Flash
Drive and intend to save as much as I can (soon as I learn how to use it)
before the problem multiplies and kills my computer. ;o)
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and other Happy Holidays, and a Healthy,
Peaceful, Safe and Happy New Year! :o) Adela

Hi Daave, I'm answering under each paragraph:

Part Two...
Is MS Word included in the WinXP??? If so I do have the CD for this!
No, MS Word is part of MS Office. Neither Word nor Office is part of
Windows XP. Office needs to be purchased separately. It's quite possible
to purchase a PC with Office pre-installed. But, again, it's not part of
XP; you paid extra for it.
>>By now thanks to your clarificaiton I can tell which iis
which
thank you!
But if not, I'll try to borrow it and then I can use the above key
with it?
Again, if you have Office installed on your PC and you need to reinstall
it, but you have lost your *Office* installation disk, you can borrow
someone else's Office installation disk (if it's the same version) to
reinstall it, using *your* product key. Now, you said there was no entry
for Office in your Add/Remove programs. Is there evidence of it in your
Belarc report? And if there is, please don't post the ID or key!!!
>>I had Office installed but I can't find the CD so I guess I
cant
reinstall. What I think happened is that I deleted from Add/Remove by
mistake the Office thinking I was removing the professional verison of
WinXP. Now, if I could possibly find my CD the
problem would be ended...
If there's no evidence of it and if you don't have proof of purchase of
any sort, you'll need to purchase a new disk. An alternative is to
download Open Office, which is quite similar, but with the added bonus
that it's free.
>>I haven't kept the techi's contact because it's about 2
or 3 years ago that he installed it otherwise I could ask him at least to
give me the key number. Oh - I think I might find it after all. If I get
the guy problem solved. If not, well, I'll have to buy it again, but what
worries me now is the disclosure I made of my windows key. But I'll call
MS tomorrow first thing. Sigh :o) Adela
Also, have a look at this page:
"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and
product upgrades, or replace product manuals":
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246
If you ever registered Office, you might be in luck after all.
Part 2: :o) Before I got the WinXP Home Edition some techi urged
me to buy the professional version and I thought I had deleted it
from Add/Remove but it's still there...Do you think I should keep
trying to delete it? However, it doesn't show my WinXP Home Edition.
Is there a way to put it there? I never noticed these things until I
started searching around for Word. Please forgive my confusion...
Now you got me confused!
Perhaps you should start from the beginning:
What is the make and model of your PC? Where did you get it from? Was it
new or used? Did it come with Office (or at least Word)? Did you
originally have an installation disk for Office? Do you have any
Certificate of Authenticity stickers either on the PC case or elsewhere?
(Don't broadcast IDs or product keys!!!) Did the PC originally have XP
Home on it? Did you ever upgrade to XP Pro? Or are you confusing that
with Office XP Pro (I know, I know, it IS confusing!). What did you
think you deleted from Add/Remove? My guess is that you deleted Office
XP Pro. But you need to provide detailed info.
I think, but not sure, that when I deleted XP Pro from
Add/Remove...it was when I noticed I had lost Word. Could it be?
Okay, it really seems like you removed Office XP Pro. And yes, that is
how you lost Word since Word is part of Office.
Did this "techi" install Office for you? Did he/she sell it to you? If
so, there should be proof of purchase. Or is it possible this person
installed an unlicensed version? If so, that would explain why there's
no disk. But, really, I'm just taking stabs. You really need to provide
as much detailed info as possible!
One final thought.
Earlier you had said:
Before I got the WinXP Home Edition some techi urged
me to buy the professional version and I thought I had deleted it
from Add/Remove but it's still there
What exactly is the entry?
Is it "Microsoft Office XP Professional" by any chance?
Why were you trying to delete it in the first place? Have you tried
repairing it?
Thanks so much for all your help and patience! Adela
You're welcome.
