Thank you Daave; I can't find my Word CD that I got about 2 or 3 years ago,
so I'm trying to remember (unsuccessfully) exactly the version I have so I
could buy it again and end my aggravation. It's an old version (that's all
I need) so it should cost little. I think it's maybe the 2002 version or
something, but not sure. Any ideas how I can find out?
Belarc Advisor gives me this version: "Microsoft Office XP Version
10.0.6835 * " Would this be it? On hovering over it I read: "Winword.exe
Microsoft Word Size:10745184 bytes date: modified 9-17-07" and thetime.
Does it mean this includes the Word???
I hesitate to try the Windows Installer CleanUp utility for fear it may
interfere with something else, as it did with my OE spellcheck. So I
thought I'd wait until either I can get it back, or until I can find out
what version I have so I can buy it again. I just can't remember as all
versions have the years and one of 2 or 3 words as names - not conducive to
remember as if they were called, say, "MS Office Daisy" or "Bluesky" etc.
;^)
As to WordPerfect, I trained with it when it was in its diapers, LOL! I
prefer it and still use it for most work although this too is an old
version...but loyal! ;o)
Thanks again, and also for the link, Daave, I read it but I'm afraid to
modify the registry. Never went into my computer's entrails. I never
excelled in the art of computer high tech.... :o) Adela
P.S. Could you and/or others let me know whether it's permissible to answer
to all on one
email, or should it be answered to each person separately?

Hello, I hope someone could help?
A day or 2 ago my MS Word suddenly disappeared from the Desktop and
the Start Programs Menu, although I saw it in some page with many
icons when I started clicking away to find something. I also saw it
in Belarc Advisor. So I used the system restore, backed a few days,
and the icon on the Start Menu reappeared and thoought that's the end
of the problem... but when I clicked to open, it showed this message:
<<The Patch Package could not be opened. Verify that the Patch Packet
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor
to verify that this is a valid windows installer Patch Package.>>
It looks like you need to run the Windows Installer CleanUp utility and
then reinstall Microsoft Office. See "You receive the 'This patch
package could not be opened' error message in an Office program":
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295823
Do you have your Office installation disk?
Also, is there any reason you are running WordPerfect in addition to
Word?
