Disabling that service got rid of Event_ID 7000, but I am unsure of how you
go about deleting a service. The file that it refers to is no longer on the
drive, as it was uninstalled with the iTunes uninstaller.
Desktop tab is still freezing

Ther is "no additional infomration" when clicking on any of the supplied
links except for the last error (Event_ID 7000) which says "To display the
WIN32_EXIT_CODE error that SCM encountered when trying to start the
program, at the command prompt, type sc query service name The information
displayed can help you troubleshoot possible causes for the error."
I did that using "sc query
##Id_String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94B879762##" and got back "[SC]
EnumQueryServicesStatus:OpenService FAILED 1060: The specified service
does not exist as an installed service."
Looking in the services portion of Computer Management revealed that the
failing service was due to "C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe".
It is a remnant of iTunes (which I had uninstalled). I have deleted it
and am restarting to see if the same problems still show up.

Gerry,
Not sure where to start, I deleted all event logs and restarted my PC. I
saw that an applications (SpiceWorks) was causing issues, so I removed
it, deleted all event logs and restarted. This is the result....

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.
You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us
Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)
A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

In a last ditch attempt to solve an issue that I have posted in
microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support I am posting the info
here.
Whenever I right-click on the desktop and click Properties, the
Display Properties window is displayed. All tabs work as expected
except for the Desktop tab which propmtly freezes the Display
Properties window and must be Xed out of or ended with Task Manager.
In an effort to fix this behavior, I have done the following....
- ran "sfc /scannow" from Run to replace all windows core files
from my install CD (XP with SP2)
- Copy "shimgvw.dll" And ""mshtml.dll" From
\Windows\system32\dllcache to \windows\system32
- Click Start- Run and run these commands one-by-one :
regSvr32 /i shimgvw.dll
regSvr32 /i mshtml.dll (got message "could not find entry
point") regSvr32 /i shell32.dll
regSvr32 /i themeui.dll
- I updated the nvidia graphics card software and drivers
- I ran Microsoft Update
I am still in the same boat. Any help that you could provide would be
greatly appreciated.
