Per Thee Chicago Wolf:
whole slew of USB system updates since SP2 was
released but I'm not 100% sure if they'll help in terms of fixing
bandwidth. Are your USB ports pretty loaded up? How old is the
motherboard and how many ports does it have? Any USB hubs?
I'm pretty heavy on USB connections.
Asus P4P80-E motherboard with two dedicated USB cards.
I don't use the MB's USB ports.
Each card has 5 ports and they're both fully-used, albeit not by
that many active devices.
Also, one card supports four ports on the front of the PC. Dunno
if that qualifies as a hub or what...
Activity-wise, I have one drive that's always connected - that
gets written to by a little file-based backup utility called
SecondCopy - which is my prime suspect right now.
Another drive gets connected periodically when I want to do a
"real" backup using Retrospect.
The other ports are occupied by things like the scanner, a new
external sound card (now *there's* a candidate, right?), my
iPod's cable, Palm Pilot cradle, mouse, keyboard....and so-forth.
Thanks for the list of KB articles. I'll start working it.
