Network problem

Gday!
We've segregated our IT Operations workstations from the remainder of our
local network. We're not running Windows firewall at all on any of our
corporate PCs.
Now the IT Operations PCs are across the other side of a firewall & we
configured an allow any traffic from the IT Operations LAN into the Corporate
"Zone" (where all client PC's and atm servers are). No traffic is permitted
from the Corporate zone into the IT Operations LAN. This as expected allows
us to get out to all the PCs we support and we can do most tasks remotely...
HOWEVER...
I can connect to our SMS server with the Administration Console and see the
tree, but I cannot expand most of the tree items such as Collections. After
seeing what's going on at the firewall I found that the SMS server is trying
to establish a new session back to my PC, first attempting a map via 135 and
then attempting an agreed port between the two. The same sort of things
happen when trying to run the Disk Management MMC locally to adminster a
remote PC... You can connect to a remote PC using Computer Management and
most of the items will open, but anything to do with disk storage does not
appear to work.
We do not want to open up access to the IT Operations LAN from the general
populas, but after some pilot testing I've hit this issue. The other
affected application so far is HP OVOW. I always assumed the local PC would
establish a bidirectional session with the remote system and have full
network comms..
Can anyone advise on what we can do to get around this issue at all?
Thanks,
Dave
