Those folders will be rebuilt when and as needed.

PA Bear,
Apparently you were misled by my question. I asked about the missing four
sub-folders and the index.dat file, not about overwriting or getting out the
big hammer. As I mentioned, I've tried CCleaner and Eraser; thus, I
understand overwriting versus deleting.
Can someone else please help? Thanks!

The only way to permanently delete the data is to overwrite it or smash
the HDD with a hammer.

There have usually been four sub-folders (named with seemingly random
letters and numbers) and an index.dat file. Because I view a lot of
confidential financial information online, I want to shred the TIF
instead
of the less secure delete. I tried CCleaner, but that still left some
files
recoverable. I then tried Eraser but, after using that application, I no
longer have the four subfolders nor an index.dat file. All of the
temporary
internet files are now in the pathname shown above. All seems to be
working
well; is it OK to be without the four subfolders as well as no more
index.dat file? Or, are they just not visible. I have to change the view
to
allow hidden as well as system files to be able to see the files and run
Eraser. Thanks!
