If you aren't redirecting the "My Music" folder to the external
drive then it's more an Apple/iTunes issue.

How do I keep itunes from forgetting the location of audio files.
ok this is how I have itunes setup I add a folder from an external hard
drive and it works the first time I do it but went I turn my computer back
on again and the external hard drive and then when I open itunes and try
to play one of the files it says that it can not be located do I need to
export my library to the external hard drive and save the library.xml file
in the itunes folder in order for it to remember the location or
something? any ideas?
