My comp. = Win XP Home
Brother's comp. = Win XP Pro
My Brother can connect to me.
I cannot connect to him ,,, get error msg. "cannot resolve host name"
There is a web site, GRC.COM, where you can have all your ports scanned, (a security check), they also report the DNS# for your comp. I had my comp. scanned then created a Remote Assist invitation ,,, GRC reported the same DNS# that was contained in the RA invitation, therefore my comp. can be connected to.
My brother repeated the same procedure I did and GRC reported a DNS# of 74.167.132.120, but the DNS# in his invite to me was 192.168.1.3 ,,,, the two DNS#'s do not match, therefore cannot connect to him and get error msg.
A talk with his ISP was no joy, they said all they do is furnish the Internet connection and this is a Microsoft problem.
Bottom line is, there is an alien DNS# between me and my brother. Who owns it and what is it doing there.
Thanks for any help or input.
