Do you have Alcohol 120% installed?
This has an option "Ignore Media Type", which can cause writing software to
see a disk as DVD-ROM if it has been bit set that way.
Nero usually will bit set a RW disk as ROM to make it more compatible with
DVD players.

Used Nero to write.
Never used Windows to do anything thelike. Have now tried using Nero /
Blindwrite / CloneCD / ... : all refuse to erase ( either no media
inserted or media not erasable !)

Windows XP SP2.
First time I get such a message. DVD looks normal at eye eximination,
and contains data ( burned with Nero)
Have tried 3 different programs all stating same.
Any idea why ?
TIA
If you are using native WinXP cd burning, the DVD-RW can't be written/
erased.
You will need to use some other 3rd party software Nero(?) to erase a
DVD.
What did you use to write the DVD?
Good Luck.
