Used Nero to write.
Never used Windows to do anything thelike. Have now tried using Nero /
Blindwrite / CloneCD / ... : all refuse to erase ( either no media inserted
or media not erasable !)

First time I get such a message. DVD looks normal at eye eximination, and
contains data ( burned with Nero)

If you are using native WinXP cd burning, the DVD-RW can't be written/
erased.
You will need to use some other 3rd party software Nero(?) to erase a
DVD.
What did you use to write the DVD?
