Click Start, Run ( Type ) Cmd [Enter]
SFC /Purgecache [Enter]*Effectively this impacts Windows File Protection, so if any
monitored files need replacing you'll be prompted for your
Windows XP CD-ROM, something you mentioned you do
not have.

Can you tell me how to do that; the SFC/Purgecache, do I type that as you
put
it at the command line. That will help all he wants to do is play
solitaire
and check email from family. He's 82yrs old. Thank you for your reply

4.0 Gigabytes is too small to effectively run Windows and most of
the common applications. There are some items that take up space
you can remove but long term you're only postponing the eventual
move to a larger drive. One item is doing an SFC /Purgecache this
will return around ~500 Megabytes of space. The command needs
to be done from a Command Prompt window.
A PATA ( Parallel ATA ) drive is very inexpensive. An 80-Gig
drive can be bought for under ~$50.
