I have XP on the primary partition and a beta copy of Vista on the 2nd
partition. Currently Vista, installed second, controls the booting
sequence. I want to uninstall Vista though and change the boot record so XP
handles the booting. Is there an easy way to do this? Would 'fixboot' or
'fixmbr' from the recovery console do it?

Just run msconfig.exe and click "Set as Default".
