I am new to XP and am looking for a way to import Forte Agent messages
and attachments into Outlook Express. I can import the messages by
saving all the Forte folders as Unix files, importing them into Eudora
3.06 and then importing from there into Outlook Express. But the
attachments are all lost - pictures show up as gibberish.
Does anyone know of a way to import the messages *and* the
attachments?
Thanks.

Gord, do the attachments show up properly in Eudora before the final
import?
Hi Pat.
No, they don't.
That helps localize the problem - it is happening at the inital import.
Can you import to a later version of Eudora? If that fixes the
attachments, you are nearly there.
If so, a later version of Eudora might "upgrade" the imported mail files
to
a form that lets the attachments survive.
The problem is that OE only allows imports from Eudora through Version
3, so a later version wouldn't help.
Actually, it might, because you could then import to Thunderbird or Netscape
Communicator and finally take that into OE. It's not unknown to have to
complete an import by using three or four mail programs.
You can find older versions of Netscape here:
http://browser.netscape.com/downloads/archive/
But first, of couse, you need to get the attachments cleanly out of Agent
first.
Also, utilities like Aid4Mail and ABC Amber might help.

I saw them, but, cheapskate that I am, was hoping to be able to do it
for free. I don't really want to buy a program without knowing for
sure that it will work.
Both ABC and Aid4Mail have free demo/trial modes. Both apply limitations in
these modes, including banners and ads and numbers of messages. But you
can find out if they will work or not.
