Re: format HDD

Yes, delete them and if you are knowledgeable about manually editing the
registry, go for it but be sure to export before deleting in case problems
ensue. If you are not knowledgeable, just leave the registry alone--a few
hundred extra entries will not be critical.

didnt want but since they are not in my add/remove or start menu , where
do i uninstall them from? Do i delete everything then go to registry and
delete them?

Some programs do not create an entry on the add-remove list. If you
retain these games, you will have to be careful of what you delete. If
you do remove something that is needed, you can always reinstall the
non-working program and hopefully any registry entries will be
overwritten.

Larry,

Installing your applications to a partition other than C: is OK (I do
this myself) but as you noted, they should be in their own folders.
Since your operating system is on C:, deleting everything on D: would
provide the same result as formatting the partition.

However, deleting/formatting will not get rid of the registry entries
for those programs. Assuming that you do not intend on formatting C:
and installing your system to a clean partition, your best bet will be
to uninstall the programs that are on D: partition. Once all are
uninstalled, then delete the mess on D: and reinstall your programs but
in their own folders this time.

If I have not discerned your problem correctly, please post back and I
or someone else will help.

Mr Badour

Thanks for reply. Ok i will delete first but i have installed stuff
wrong in the D:\ , i have been installing things in program files
without a folder like i would put stuff in D:\ProgramFiles instead of
D:\PromgramFiles\ad-aware and so on. its a mess.

I just wanted to make sure that it (HDD)would work if i formatted it
I have formatted before and it didnt showup afterwards and had to do
something else , but that was a new drive.
thanks again

Yes but why are you trying to format D: drive? If you want rid of
the Windows folder on D:, delete it (you can hold down the shift key
to prevent it from going into the trash bin).

Hello

During a failed atempt at trying to do a format and install of a
xp home sp2 i somehow got a windows folder on my D:\ ( my o/s is on
my C:\) , i think it happened when after trying everything else to
get my computer to restart after setup copied to the windows
installation folders i tried to install on the D:\.
Now i want to format my D:\ , do i go to disk management
(diskmgmt.msc) and format and am good to go or does it take a expert
to format D:\?
If you can help this old man out it would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
larry
