Hi Nass
Everything is 32 bit so no compatibility issues there! I experimented with
IE addons this morning and all my changes still resulted in the same error.
I've already got Filemon saved on our network so will run that on my test PC
later on today and keep you informed.

It could be a memory leakage and you really need to pin point this, yes it
could be the Office suite as it is the last software added, is it compatible
with these machine (32-bit Vs 64-Bit software environment).
It is best to experiment to get a solution on one machine and see if the
procedure will solve the issue, also the Event viewer log will be much of
help to you & us to track this down.
Download the FileMon or Process Explorer to monitor in real time the running
processes in the background and capture the causer getting the most of the
CPU usage.

Thanks for all this information.
Just to answer some of your suggestions, all PC's are running Sophos
Antivirus managed centrally - I can confirm 100% that all pc's are clean.
If it's bad ram then it's suddenly developed on approx 15 pc's and only come
to light after the Office 2003 upgrade so I don't think it's this. Some of
the PC's are only 4-6 months old. Basically there were no errors of any kind
on these pc's until the Office upgrade was complete.
I will pick a PC hopefully later today and go through the Internet Options
and try what you have suggested. I'll let you know how I get on.

Go through these cleaning steps to see or get a clear opinion on how
clean your machine is:
= Click Start >> Control Panel>>Network and Internet Connections >> Double
click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced.
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
[ ] Disable script Debugging (internet Explorer) <= check this box
[ ] Disable Script Debugging (Other) <= check this box
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.

3... You may have a bad RAM try to test your RAM by running Memory test by
downloading this tool and unzip it and make a floppy or CD/DVD and run it on
Reboot.
