I am wrestling with the same issue at the present time. I've tried
system restore, chkdsk /r, and various other things. I too have turned
off the automatic restart in system properties.
I would suspect a power supply problem or an over heating processor but
then again I don't get any indication that the computer did not shut
down any way except normally.

I have purposely been staying away from changing anything to do with the BIOS, for one, since I have know real idea what I'm doing, I don't want to mess around with things I don't know about, unless I really have to. ... "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" was already checked, with both Marvell and Reatek, but not Toshiba, which doesn't allow one to check or not check. ... "Allow this device to wake the computer" was not checked in both Marvell and Reatek, ... (microsoft.public.windows.vista.general)
