Download SpeedFan 4.32 and use it to monitor the motherboard
based sensors. Many OEM PCs do not apply correct Thermal
paste to the CPU or the Passive heatsinks for the Northbridge &
Southbridge chips. The latest "Beta" version 4.33 now provides
the ability to monitor Video card thermals. ( Which are becoming
the warmest component in many PCs ).

I am wrestling with the same issue at the present time. I've tried
system restore, chkdsk /r, and various other things. I too have turned
off the automatic restart in system properties.

I would suspect a power supply problem or an over heating processor but
then again I don't get any indication that the computer did not shut
down any way except normally.
