I am wrestling with the same issue at the present time. I've tried
system restore, chkdsk /r, and various other things. I too have turned
off the automatic restart in system properties.
I would suspect a power supply problem or an over heating processor but
then again I don't get any indication that the computer did not shut
down any way except normally.
