Re: Windows access error

I also found this:

Hello,

Thank you for using newsgroup!

This similar issue may be caused by: A policy is in place to restrict
Internet Explorer browsing to secure zones: Users configurations\Windows
Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenace\Security - Security Zones & Rating
The restriction is defined to exclude all network UNC paths in the local
intranet zone.

A resultant set of policies will indicate the following setting is
disabled: Include all network paths (UNC)

NOTE: The above setting may not be viewable from the group policy editor.
The reason is because the Windows 2003 Server component called "Internet
Explorer Security Configurations" is installed. This can be removed via
Add/Remove Windows Components in control panel.

Resolution:
=========
Reconfigure the policy or remove the component "Internet Explorer Security
Configurations".

Thanks & Regards,

Ken Zhao

I just had similar problem installing a fresh copy of Windows 2003 SP1
standard server. After I had the server all setup and all of the patches and
IE7 installed, which was done via the updates, I went to install our
antivirus software, which is done by browsing out to a share on another
server and I got an error messager. The error I got was "you may not have the
appropriate permissions to access the item." I found another posting here
that said to open IE7, go into tools. internet options, security, click on
trusted sites, click sites and add the share to the site. \\servername

That did the trick. Not sure what has changed but it this has happened to
two new server that I just setup.

You may have had a horked install of IE7. I suggest that you...

1. Uninstall all toolbars, and then...

2. Reinstall IE7 per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install,
and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

No change after accomplishing 1 & 2, but uninstalling IE7 & going back to
IE6 did solve it. Does that mean I can't use IE7 or was there something I
should have done different during the IE7 install?

IE6 also solved a problem I have with Adobe Acrobat Reader & certain web
sites.

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode?

To start IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons;
or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer

It says it in a Blue "Control Panel" Box what is this? This is just a family
