Here are a few things you can try to get your computers
connected.
There's a reset button on the back of your router right next to
the antenna. Using a pointed object, hold down the button for
at least ten seconds. That should reset the router to the
default settings. Restart any computers that are connected to
the router.
If that doesn't work you can change the router's settings
through the web interface. Take a look at this article for more
info.
How to configure internet access on a NETGEAR router for Cable
connection

Note: I think you'll find that http://192.168.1.1 will apply to
your router.
The bottom line is that you need to configure the router so
that on the Basic Settings page it's set to not require a
logon.
Once you've correctly configured the router, you need to renew
the IP addresses on each computer. The easiest way to do this
is to restart each computer. You can also renew the IP address
by opening a command prompt window and entering ipconfig /renew
at the prompt. To open a command prompt window look under
Accessories on your Start menu.
Here are a couple of Netgear web sites you may find helpful.

Since you had a DSL connection, there's a good possibility
that
your Netgear router was configured to use PPPoE to establish
an
internet connection.
To check whether this is the case you would need to access
the
router's web interface. Check the documentation that came
with
your router on how this is done. If your router came with an
installation CD you might want to run the setup program from
that CD to correctly configure your router. Another option
would be to hold down the router's reset button to restore
its
default settings.
If you have any questions, include the make and model number
of
your router in your response.
If you haven't done so already, you might want to post your
question to the XP networking newsgroup.
