Here's the problem. On my windows Media player, I have a section
called MSN Music. This allows you to pay in a sum of money in
advance, to cover cost of downloads as and when you want them.
I have paid in £20, and this is showing on my account. However,
whenever I click on the buy button to download a track, although the
button turns to a green tick, which I would take to mean a successful
download, nothing appears on my media player, and no money is taken
from my account.
If I try to download the same track again, I get a message saying
this track has already been downloaded.
It sounds to me like you're using an outdated version of Windows Media
Player. Is this possible? What version are you running?
How did you pay, credit card? If so, was your credit card actually
debited? What happens when you try to download music via the Web
interface? Example:
http://music.msn.com/album/?album=32405425
There is no information on MSN Music about changes, but from trawling
through the help pages, and posts here and elsewhere, it seems that
from 14 Nov 2006, MSN music ceased to exist, and in order to obtain
music, you had to go to either Zune or Rhapsody.
From the link listed above, there is another link called: "What happenedto MSN downloads?" URL:
http://help.live.com/help.aspx?project=msn_entertainment_music&market=en-us&querytype=keyword&query=sdaolnwod&tmt=MSNMusic&domain=music.msn.com
(Or http://shurl.org/SEQkW )
It's similar to the other one I posted, but it has more information.
From what I have read, when you click the buy button on MSN Music, you
should get a link to either of these sites, but I do not.
Maybe you're running an outdated version of WMP.
My problem is twofold.
First, what has happened to my £20 in MSN Music, which I cannot use,
and cannot get back.
As I asked earlier, is this what happened? If it was a credit card
transaction, contact your credit card company for reimbursement.
Second, I have spent most of today either downloading, or removing
bits of software, or wandering round help pages, trying to do what
must surely be a simple and popular task, i.e. downloading music, and
seem to be no closer. My understanding is that either Zune or
Rhapsody will have to be downloaded as well, and I do not want to do
that until I know it will do what I want. Cannot waste any more time
going round in circles.
Try the link above; hopefully that will answer your questions.
By the by, on the link you sent me, the question above gives details
of how to contact technical support. They have a phone number, and an
e-mail address, but both will cost £40 to submit a question. That is
where that amount came about.
That doesn't make any sense at all! From http://music.msn.com/help/bill
:
Questions About My Bill
You can quickly access your MSN Music bill online from the My Microsoft
Billing Account page (https://billing.microsoft.com/ ). For your
convenience you will not receive a paper statement via postal mail.
What happens when you go to https://billing.microsoft.com/ ? Aren't you
able to contact a Billing Support (*not* technical support) rep?
Lastly, since this is clearly not a Windows XP issue, you may get better
results from microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player .
Good luck!
