1394 !

Ahhhh - just as I thought - so you know, the reason I said there are
problems sometimes with Sony recovery is that, in my experience, their
recovery OFTEN does not have the right drivers. It's totally crazy,
but that's my experience.

1394 is the FIREWIRE port. Try disabling the Firewire port either in
the BIOS if you know how to access it (you can access before the
laptop boots Windows or sometimes there is an icon in the Control
Panel to modify BIOS settings), or through "Administrative Tools \
Computer Management \ Device Manager".

Hi Karl

The probles started after running the Recovery Program. I have tried
searching the Sony site and have tried corresponding with them via
e-mail.
Their responses were of little help as they basically were refering me
back
to searching Microsoft and Sony sites which I had already been doing.
I am
getting various messages from " a network cable is unpluged ", " i
1394
Connection, A network cable is unplugged " " Internet Explorer --
Program is
not responding. " to just everything locking up, with the only option
is to
shut the system down at the tower.

Hi Joytym,

I Can't work out from what you're saying whether the problem started
appearing AFTER you ran Recovery, or whether you ran Recovery in an
attempt to solve the problem ?

If it is the former there can be quite a few reasons related to Sony
Recovery that can be the cause of the problem, and as the previous
respondent said, check out the Sony site for updates.

If it is the latter, then you may have some problematic background
programs - try :

Having problems with Windows locking-up and Programs "Not
Responding".
Computer is a Sony with Windows XP pre installed ( prior to SP2
being
included ).
Have recently ran the Recovery, from a partition on the hard drive,
used
automatic install of the updates recommended from Microsoft ( this
included
the SP2 ). Recall having a very similar problem when the computer
was
new and
received advise from Sony as to how to resolve, seems to me that the
process
was quite straight forward but do not recall how it was done.
Corresponding
with Sony at this time is not providing a resolution. Any assistance
would be
appreciated. Thank You.
