when they say you need pro, it means that you have 2 seperate CPUS on a
dual
CPU monitor..
not multicore CPUs like yours is...

So yes, Home will work.

I suggest you go with 32 bit for compatibility of drivers and programs.

I just bought an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ with 2 GB of RAM. Do I need
Windows XP Pro to support my dual-core processor, or will XP Home work
just as well? Also, is 32-bit better than 64-bit since I run less
than 4 GB of RAM? Thanks.- Hide quoted text -

Thank you very much. 32-bit Windows XP Home it is :)

Just to clarify, XP Home only comes in 32-bit. There are no 16 or 64 bit
versions of XP Home.

XP Pro and Windows Server 2003 come in 32 or 64 bit versions, and then the
64 bit XP Pro version is only available as OEM - it's supplied with the
system you paid extra for, by the builder. IIRC, you cannot buy this at
retail, you have to buy it from a seller who is going to be the support
contact.

XP Home does support multi-core processors, but only one physical processor
per board.

Where you *Need* to not use XP Home is if you have specific networking
neeeds (connecting to Domains, running IIS) or need to use encryption, and a
few other things like that.
