So, should I order Windows XP 64 bit?
Probably not.
I don't have any 64 bit
applications just yet and probably won't for a while,
There are very few available yet.
but will other
32 bit standard apps run faster on a 64bit OS or slower? Or no change?
They will run at much the same speed they do now. There is hardly any
benefit to be achieved by running 64-bit Windows unless you have
64-bit apps.
Moreover, you may have trouble getting 64-bit drivers for all your
hardware.
In a few years, most of us will be running 64-bit Windows. But for the
present, only rarely does it make sense for someone to do so.
