Any error message and if so, please post it verbatim. Have you tried doing
a ctrl-alt-del and killing any application that is running before shutting
down?

Laptop locks during shutdown -- only way to stop is to hold down off
button. Goes thru initial stages, blue screen appears and then freezes.
