I am using a powered hub but that is connected to one of the 4 USB ports on
my computer.
My computer manufacturer refers me to Windows Update to obtain the USB
drivers. Microsoft "support" tells me "the windows xp service pack 1
installer is designed to update all drivers and all files that are included
with windows xp. Because USB 2.0 drivers are not included with windows xp,
you must follow the steps in this article to obtain the latest drivers after
you install service pack 1."
After the reinstall of Windows XP, I went to Microsoft Windows update page
and downloaded everything recommended. I don't specifically remember
installing Service Pack 1.
Would there be any problem installing Service Pack 1 now?

usually corrects the problem but not always.
Does anyone have any idea of what might be the problem?
I don't recall having this problem before I did a clean reinstall of
Windows XP.
drivers for all your hardware? If not, you need to do this. General driver
information:
Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:
1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM computer
(HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).
Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.
To find out what hardware is in your computer:
1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific model
machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too although it might not work
on Vista.

B. Since you didn't mention what USB devices you are connecting, there is
always the possibility that you are attaching too many power-hungry
devices for what your computer can handle. If this is the case, then get a
powered USB hub.
