Bingo! The "Start | Run, type "control userpasswords2"" method did the
trick. Thank all of you!

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Since I installed .NET, I am now required to click on my name as part of
the booting process. My name is the only one there and I'm the only
user on my system. How can I circumvent this requirement? I'm running
XP Pro.

Start | Run, type "control userpasswords2" Select the account you want to
logon to automatically. Then uncheck the box "Users must enter a user
name and password to use this computer."

Or do the same thing with TweakUI.
