The current product ID in the registry is from my companys windows
image NOT the actual one on the PC's. The company is giving these to
employees now and does not want their VL key to be left on the PC's.

The product keys on the Compaq would be Compaq specific OEM Keys and as such
are unlikely to work with a Volume Licence Key. You will need to find the
CDs that came with the machines and do a clean reinstall (some thing your
company should do for security purposes any way).
